Busy day with the evacuees

Yesterday, UNT received over 300 evacuees from New Orleans
I produced two video packages in one day; one was for Palestra.net and the other for the North Texas Daily I also directed my own little field news center, relaying information between KNTU and NTDaily.com

Joe Carter from KNTU was with me at the remote location and the NT Daily's Kyle Phillips was on location in Laffayette LA.

I ran all that video and published NTDaily.com…. at 3.a.m.
There were a few obstacles to overcome.

I wasn't fully trained on their web hosting system and now I have to wait a day before my first package is posted.

Here it is.

Here's the one from NTDaily.com

..
Tracy Everbach said I needed to make them as different as possible. Rachel Slade demanded that my NTDaily video be of higher quality than that of Fox…

I think she was playing…

With the time constraints, you can see the results.

Question....

Is it possible to plagiarize myself? I am using my own equipment now, so would that add to the legitimacy of this project.

I'd be curios to here your opinions.

Deaths in the news

Recently, there has been more death in the news related to UNT than I am used to seeing. As a journalism student, I value the real world experience of dealing with stories such as these, but I am also sad to see such things affecting our community.

My thoughts go out to our comrades at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram

It was just in the news today that the Star-Telegram will be losing 130 jobs…
It’s scary for me to think about how lean and mean the journalism world is becoming.

I wonder if I have to worry about my job…..

New features and offerings I’m trying for NTDaily.com

This is my second semester here at this position. My first semester saw lots of success with new features that we implemented on the site, everyone really seemed to like the breaking news and video features that we worked hard to bring you. Now, however, it is time to improve the site even further. As of this week, I will be updating the site daily with news from the AP wire and our partners over at PegasusNews.com. I have two reasons for doing this.First and foremost is that I wish to provide the UNT community with the most up-to-date and informative news as possible. I feel that NTDaily.com is not only a place where the NT Daily showcases the talent of our student reporters, but also gives the UNT community a place to come together and discuss local, state and national news that affects our campus and our lives. The second reason why is that I want to drive up the hit counts. The more hits and readers we get, the more advertisers will want to buy ads on our site. This, in turn will give the NT Daily the funds needed buy more equipment so we can bring the public a higher quality news product.Over the summer, I have a few other ideas that I’m going to try out; some may work great, and some may not. My hope is that people will come here to this blog to discuss some of the new and current features of the website so we can raise things up to the next level. One of the first is to link staff blogs to the site.We will be receiving the updates from College Publisher soon too.I look forward to sharing my thoughts and ideas with you.Your WebmasterStan Ascher
